FTTx-GPON Solutions

The ITU-T released the Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) Standard for passive optical networks (PON).

About

HTTx-GPON Solutions

Based on ITU-T specifications G.984 series, GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) is an optical system for access networks. Using class B+ optics with a 1:32 split ratio, it can deliver a 20 kilometre reach with a 28dB optical budget.

Any broadband network architecture that uses optical fibre to supply all or a portion of the local loop used for telecommunications is referred to as fibre to the x or fibre in the loop.

In campus networking, GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) is an alternative to Ethernet switching. With GPON, access and distribution Ethernet switches are replaced with passive optical devices in place of the customary three-tier Ethernet design. GPON is launched by Cisco with the Catalyst GPON platform.

Key Advantage

The use of passive splitters in the fibre network, which allows one and only feeding fibre from a certain supplier to service numerous residences and/or small companies, is its key advantage and valuable feature.
